We hold a small range and make it well rather than carrying a catalogue. Lighting is wired for UK and EU supply; homeware ships flat from the same workshop.
The workshop
One building, eight people, no third-party factory
Lumen began in 2016 as a metal shop on Corve Street that spun brass shades for architects. The architects kept asking where they could buy the shades, and by 2019 there were enough answers to call it a shop.
We still make everything within forty metres of the spinning lathe. That limits how much we can sell, which is the point: a range of eight pieces can be held in stock, repaired for a decade and finished by someone who signs the underside.

What is included
The parts of buying a lamp that usually go wrong
Shipping, fitting and what happens two years later are all part of the product, so they are priced into it rather than sold back to you.
Delivery that gives a time
Stock items leave within 48 hours on a tracked next-day service. You get a two-hour window the evening before, not a full day at home.
Fitting notes, drawn to scale
Every ceiling piece ships with a template showing drop heights over a table, an island and a stairwell, so the flex is cut once.
Repairs, not replacements
Send a damaged shade back and we re-spin or re-lacquer it. Out of warranty it is charged at cost plus return postage.
Thirty days to change your mind
Return anything unfitted within thirty days for a full refund, including the outward postage. Made-to-order pieces are the exception.

None of these make a product photograph better. All of them make the piece easier to live with once it is on the wall.
No visible bulb, anywhere
Every fitting carries an opal or sandblasted diffuser, so a bare filament never sits in your eyeline from a sofa or a dining chair.
A twelve-year guarantee
Wiring, switches and LED modules are covered for twelve years. We keep the drawings, so a fitting from 2019 can still be repaired.
Brass with a history
Our brass is 96% recycled by weight, sourced from a UK smelter, and the offcuts from spinning go straight back to it.
Someone who has held it
Support is two people in the workshop. They can tell you the weight of a shade because they have carried it across the room.

What people ask before they order
Over a dining table, hang the shade 750mm to 900mm above the surface. The Halo Pendant ships with 2m of flex, which covers ceilings up to about 3.2m; longer drops are made to order at no extra cost.
Yes, with a trailing-edge dimmer. Older leading-edge dimmers will make an LED buzz, so if you are unsure send us the model number and we will check it.
Three to four weeks for the Column Floor Lamp and the Ash Side Table. You get a photograph of the finished piece before it is packed.
We ship to the EU, Norway and Switzerland on a delivered-duty-paid service, so the price at checkout is the price at the door. Lighting is supplied with the correct plug for the destination.

You are welcome to come and see a fitting lit before you buy one. Saturdays are quiet and the lathe is off, which makes it easier to talk.
